Precast concrete: WHY?
The use of precast concrete in construction is widely regarded as an economic, durable, structurally sound and architecturally versatile form of construction. “Betonika” is making efforts to keep up with the demands of modern society: economy, efficiency, technical performance, safety, labor circumstances and environmental friendliness.
- Warmth and efficiency
1. Precast concrete walls are characterized with high thermal insulation. „Betonika“ produces the insulated walls (sandwich) with the thermal resistance of 6,64 m2K/W. We have calculated, the family house, introduced by “Betonika” (total area 168 m2) is really efficient: the heating month expenses would not reach 132 LTL (while heated by liquid gas). In case of comparing – inhabitants of old construction multistory residential houses were paying from 250 LTL up to 300 LTL per month for the heating of 49 m2 flat).
2. Precast is unique material, which is able to accumulate the warmth like an old furnace. Therefore house made from precast concrete elements will be really warm and efficient.
- Assembling
1. High speed
2. Minimal construction staff and technical supervisory is needed while assembling the precast concrete elements.
3. The elements are being assembled directly form the truck, therefore no need of additional space for storing construction materials; the environment on the site is more tidy and clean.
4. Factory-made production assures the element is protected from rainfall and humidity (on the site it is rather complicated), therefore there is no need to use any heaters or humidity collectors.
- Quality characteristics
1. Quality control of precast concrete elements is assured in the factory.
2. High sound isolation.
3. Fire resistance of hollow core slabs can reach up to 3 hours.
4. Walls’ surface is smooth, ready for coloring, there is no need for plastering.
5. Technical ducts and inserts for electricity are incorporated prior to casting (there is not necessary to drill, no dust and noise on the construction site).
- Wide architectural choice
Customer has great choice of facades’ surface finishing (clinker, reckli, graphic concrete, self-finished concrete, etc).
- Extra services and guarantees

Compared with traditional construction methods and other building materials, prefabrication as a construction method, and concrete as a material, has a number of advantages:
- Factory-made products. The only way to industrialize the construction business is to shift the work from the site to modern permanent factories. It means rational and efficient manufacturing processes, skilled workers, repetition of actions, quality surveillance, etc.
- Prefabrication has a much greater potential for economy, structural performance and durability. Optimal use of materials is obtained through modern manufacturing equipment and carefully studied working procedures. As a consequence, precast products are much more slender and present a high durability and longevity.
- Shorter construction time - less than half of conventional cast in-situ construction. Today the demand for a speedy return on investment is becoming increasingly important: the initially agreed construction terms have to be met.
- Adverse weather conditions don’t influence the construction process. Prefabrication is independent of adverse weather conditions and production continues normally in wintertime when the temperature falls below – 200 C. Site work stops when the temperature falls below - 5°C.
